Tired Of Broccoli, Try This!

Good Morning MELTer's,

So recently I just got into eating brussel sprouts and other than  just knowing they are a green vegetable and low in calories I found out some other interesting and beneficial facts as well!

Brussel Sprouts are high in protein, a quarter of their calories. Loaded with vitamin A, folacin (which helps in weight management), potassium and calcium make a great way to get some of your daily minerals.

They have 3-5 grams of fiber per cup, and at 25 calories per 1/2 cup cooked, you will save on calories and feel more full because of the fiber!

Not only are brussel sprouts good for your the taste great too!

I saute them in coconut oil, garlic and a little black pepper which you can adjust to taste.

So if you are looking for a new veggie to eat with dinner, as a snack or to try I recommend brussel sprouts.

Let me know what you think on our Facebook page and if you have any good brussel sprout recipes share them with us as well!-cs

Have a good morning boost!

Good morning MELTer's,

So I get some questions about if a shake is good to have in the morning for breakfast and my answer to this is yes!

Your body is in a type of starvation state because you have been sleeping for 8 hours, hopefully, and you want your metabolism to start working right away.

Now here's the best part and it's something Ive been doing to give me a little burst.

Instead of using water for my shake in the morning, I use coffee. Right, sounds good!

You can play around with this recipe to your taste but I suggest you use:

  • Ice
  • Coffee
  • 1-2 scoops of protien
  • I drink my coffee black but if you need it lighter, almond milk or if you have have to milk
And there you go! You now have breakfast and your coffee all in one shot!

Play around with your options and let me know what you think on our Facebook page!

Have a great day!-cs

Do you REALLY know what your buying?

Hey M.E.L.T.er's,

Do you really know what your buying at the grocery store?

Oraganic or "Healthy" food more often than not arent really that healthy for you!

Before buying, look at the label and see what ingredients are actually in that so called health food. Most of the time these type of food are marketed very well to make you believe what you are buying is healthy for you when in reality it may not be the best choice. Just because something might have whole grain or organic on it does not mean the rest of the item isnt covered in sugar or other "not so healthy" ingredients.

So, here at M.E.L.T., we have a simple solution!

We are going to be offering a FREE grocery store tour in South Windsor on 7/10 at 7 pm at Stop & Shop, Glastonbury 7/12 at 7:30pm Stop &Shop and 7/16 Harwington right after BC.

The purpose is going to be how to shop smart. We are going to teach you how companys market themselves to come off as healthy. We are also going to show you how to read labels and show what to look for and what to not look for.

This is going to be very informational and if anyone is having trouble with their diet or just wants to learn the rights and wrongs of eating then please join us!

Hope to see you there!

Local Fitness Center Bridges the Gap Between the Cross Fit Games, Adventure Runs and The Biggest Loser

M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio is changing the fitness industry by fusing together Biggest Loser Challenges, Cross fit Games and the concept of Adventure Runs with their own take.

“We created the M.E.L.T. Madness Tournament, because we are not impressed with the options for the everyday person to partake in challenging and competitive activities without having to train for months or be “die hard.” Its great that the awareness of fitness is growing, we just wanted to offer an option for people of all levels and provide professional coaching and motivation during the entire event, “ says Director Craig Stranachak.
M.E.L.T. Madness Tournament will take place Saturday from 9-1 pm at 40 Sandra Drive, suite 7-8 in South Windsor, Connecticut. The opening game will include “Bootcamp Gone Bad,” M.E.L.T.’s killer challenge where each team will compete in reps for five different exercise, each for an entire minute – all back to back without rest! Other games will include Tire Flips, TRX Row-Atomic Push—up, Sled Pulls, Sand Bag Runs and creating Equipment Bridges. Teams will get points for each event and the top two teams will compete for first and second place in the Warrior Course, an obstacle course that will test endurance and will.

Unlike the Cross Fit Games and Adventure Runs, M.E.L.T. will have seven professional fitness coaches supervising, motivating and coaching each participant. “We are about Safety First, Results Second. The last thing someone needs is to nurse an injury when they are trying to get healthy!,” Says South Windsor M.E.L.T. manager Aaron Granahan.
There will be 24 teams participating in tomorrow’s event and there is expected to be hundreds of spectators cheering on the participants. M.E.L.T. hired Dj TekNeek to provide fun and motivating music. “To my knowledge, there has never been a local event like this. We are very excited,” says Glastonbury M.E.L.T. manager Nicole DiMauro.

Although this is a competition, the M.E.L.T. Staff is excited to help locals feel accomplished, doing something they never did before. “It’s not a matter of can’t, everyone can do this. It’s all about just doing and embracing discomfort,” says owner Joe Carabase.

It Pays To Work Hard At M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio

Week six of the Eight Week Transformation Contest and our bootcamp clients are killing it!! Not only are waist lines changes and the numbers on the scales, but mindsets and lifestyles. This challenge is creating healthier habits which will in the long run, create better quality in their lives.

Results Coach Nicole, at the Glastonbury M.E.L.T. Fitness location, talked with three of her clients to see how they are doing so far.

Nicole- "Tara, how are you feeling at the end of week six in the Transformation Contest?"

Tara-"This week has been a challenge for me with the time change and the really nice weather. It was hard to motivate myself to come. However, once I got here for Semi-private training and

then bootcamp, I felt awesome and energized. I am always glad when I come and that I feel great when I leave."

Nicole- "What has been your success with the challenge in the six weeks?"

Tara- "I have definitely lost inches, and I have been a lot better about my eating since starting the challenge."

Nicole-"Audrey, how are you doing in week six?"
Audrey-" I am good, a little sore but feeling really good! I have so much energy and my stamina has increased rapidly. The Semi-private training is really helping me get to the next level in my fitness and I am doing bootcamp six days a week."

Nicole-"Sarah, I got a chance to talk to you earlier this week and you shared some great new with me about taking in four belt loops since starting! What have your challenges been?"

Sarah-" Food has been a challenge for me this week, and staying on track with eating healthy. I have allowed myself to cheat here and then, but I keep trying to focus on the Transformation Contest, which is helping me not fall off the wagon too much."

All of the Personal Trainers here at M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio have seen some great changes take place during this challenge. With two more weeks to go, we can not wait to see how everyone's weight loss success has been. The best thing about this challenge is that it is getting the clients to change their habits and form a new mindset towards their health. Even when the eight weeks is said and done, this is something that they can stick with and stay healthy!

The challenge will help clients develop healthy habits and learn to stick with them. For more

TOMA - Key to Success!

Before we discuss TOMA, I just wanted to thank all of you who participated in our Share the Love, Bring a Friend Week, we raised $575 for the Heart Foundation!

TOMA aka Top of Mind Awareness is vital for success in anything. Have you ever heard of the book and movie The Secret? If you haven’t, simply put it’s about getting what you want in life by thinking positively, visualization and the law of attraction. These concepts and TOMA program your subconscious mind around things you think about, whether good or bad, and actually dictate actions you take.

4 Ways to Utilize TOMA to Shed Body fat

1. Mark your calendar with days and times you are going to work out, every day, every week. This way, every time you look at your calendar, you see your workouts. Plus, it’s been proven that if you schedule something, you are 95% more likely to attend it. Our mindbody software makes this easy for our bootcamp and personal training clients.

2. Join a challenging fitness program: When you are physically challenged, you are going to think more about whatever it was that challenged you, either before or after the training session. You will feel accomplished and energized; your subconscious will crave more of that feeling, thus pushing you to work out more. While we focus on form first, our goal of every workout at M.E.L.T. is to make it an challenging experience, whether bootcamp or personal training at our South Windsor, Harwinton, Glastonbury and On-site locations.

3. Log your eating: I cannot tell you how many people I’ve consulted with that have told me how healthy they eat and how they have no idea why they can’t lose the extra belly fat around their stomach. Upon persisting them to keep an active food log, I always notice several things that they are consuming and not doing that are leading to belly fat gain. We are human and I don’t care how good your memory is, if you don’t track something its out of sight. Plain and simple, those who log what they eat on a daily base get better results. I know logging can be tedious so I created a log book that only requires you to check things off, rather than writing them in. I built our meal plan into the check list so that our clients do not have to remember every aspect of the plan, the choices are right there for them to check!

4. Seek out accountability: I can honestly tell you one of the best things I’ve ever done was join a mastermind. In this group, other professionals and I meet quarterly to support and hold each other accountable. Its human nature to fall off track but when people are expecting you to do certain things and are willing to support you to accomplish those things, you will get stuff done.

Accountability happens on all level; top Olympic athletes, professional athletes, successful business people – you name it! Therefore, we created our F.L.A.G. (fat loss accountability group) in our Glastonbury, South Windsor and Harwinton bootcamp and personal training locations because we know people who join this group will get better results. One of our members in our Glastonbury group lost 10 lbs since our first FLAG meeting! We cut each group off at 14 people, if you are interested, email meltfitness@gmail.com as soon as possible! Each member of the FLAG group receives this easy to follow log book, attends one monthly meeting where we do measurements and give each member the platform to share what they are going through.

ACTION is key! The one thing I think The Secret could have done a better job in is explain how important implementing these concepts is. Thinking alone gets you nowhere, but the more TOMA you have – the more action you are likely to take.

We created a fun and challenging environment here at M.E.L.T. through our Bootcamps, Personal Training, Semi Private Personal Training, Warrior Classes, Youth Training and our F.L.A.G. where we make TOMA easy for our clients, if you are interested in any of the above services we provide just email meltfitness@gmail.com .

Have a great day and don’t forget to focus on these two things: 1. You set a positive TOMA 2. You take action asap!

Local Business Spotlight: Salon Dell'Aera

Hey everybody! Craig here. I had the chance to meet up with the owner of Salon Dell'Aera Heidi Cass. A successful business owner in the town of Glastonbury. I was able to catch up with her and ask her how her business is going.

1.       Who is your company and what do you do?

Salon Dell’Aera is the company and I am a hairstylist.

2.       What is one thing that is unique about your company?

Our company has a very central location, easy access to the highway, plenty of parking and most importantly is a place to come and feel better about yourself and build your confidence at the same time.

3.       Do you have anything exciting going on currently…events, promos, expansions?

We are offering a special decondition strength treatment for the month of March. I use a strengthening shampoo then deep conditioning all with complimentary champagne, fresh berries and Belgian chocolate for $35 which is usually $55!

4.       As a busy professional, you must have great organizational skills. Since most of our clients are busy professional, what’s your number one time management and organizational tip?

I use an appointment book and am always aware of the clock, I know how long each type of cut or treatment will take and use the appointment book according to the job. I would rather have fewer clients and take my time and give them the best experience possible then over book. That’s why the appointment book works!

2. Back to School Biggest Loser Competition, Teacher’s Edition

As fitness professionals, we found September to be the “make or break” month for teachers with their fitness. We see how difficult the transition is from summer to the long days teaching kids with germs flying around everywhere. We’ve found that if teachers don’t hit the ground running the first month of school, they tend to put off their fitness until January. Not only pushing themselves further from their fitness goals, but also end up suffering from low energy levels, lower immune system power and poor nutritional habits.

Welp, not this year! M.E.L.T. Fitness is offering our Biggest Loser Competition, Teachers Edition to help teachers get in the best shape of their life and potentially win CASH MONEY!

Any local school can participate and each school will be in competition with each other. Weight, Body Fat and waistline measurements will be taken at the start of the program, the team with the greatest amount of overall percent lost in these categories will be the winners.

There is no cap as to how many people participate from your school, but we encourage at least five people – not to say two or three people who commit cannot win this contest and see great results!

Criteria

- You must be a teacher.

-You do a pre contest weight, waist and body fat measurement as well as a before picture

-You must sign in on your school’s sheet at every bootcamp

Cash Prize

The winning team will get an even split of half the money paid

Are you overcoming fears?

Fear by definition is a distressing emotionaroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. We all have experienced this emotion and it is always a challenge to overcome it. For me, as silly as it sounds, I have a fear in running. “Running”, you ask?! Perhaps the bigger picture was my fear of failing at it.

I have, for the last 15 years of my life, dabbled in the activity of running. However, I could never label myself as a “runner”. Having played Field Hockey in high school, we would run several miles a week during the season. I say “during the season” because you would never catch me pounding the pavement during the rest of the year. Running has always felt like a chore, and something I was never good at. Whenever I did run, all I could think about was how much I was not enjoying what I was doing. It was a mental challenge.

After working for a number of years at a specialty running store called Fleet Feet Sports, running really started to fascinate me. I was intrigued by the people that would come in to get their brand new kicks after they had completed their races. I wanted to know what on earth would make someone want to endure 26.2 miles of an activity that, let’s face it, is not always a picnic. Little by little, I would lace up when I was at home and try out some of the hills around where I live (pretty much the only thing around here are hills). For a few weeks I would discipline myself to get out there, but I still did not enjoy what I was doing. “Why is this so hard for me?!”

Well, perhaps it was the tiny (negative) voice in my head telling me to quit, or looking up and seeing yet again another hill! Needless to say, I never stuck to it.
One of the best things about my job is being able to motivate and challenge people to overcome their own obstacles. Nothing makes me happier then experiencing the joy my clients get when they have accomplished something that they did not think they were able to. Once you get that feeling, you want more!! I wanted to feel that way about this silly activity. So, I signed up for the 2011 Warrior Dash in Windham New York. Giving myself a deadline and specific goal time was the only way I was going to get my butt out there and just run. I needed to suck it up and run! So knowing that I had a few months to train for this 5K obstacle gave me a reason to overcome what was in my head. Race date, August 14th.

One month before the race, miles still not exceeding more then 1.5, I hurt my foot. It became difficult to doing any weight bearing on it, let alone pushing off through my gate. Frustrated.... This was an understatement!

Only weeks away from my first race and I may be throwing in the towel before even getting to the start line. I could not let this happen, there was no way! I spent several times a day with ice, stretching, doing self massage, and applying essential oils to my foot. I had to get better! Three days before the race, and foot not 100 percent, I came to a decision. I would not be running in this race. However, I had dedicated my time to this, I had made a commitment. So, I was going to walk the hell out of it!!! Warrior Dash, here I come! Let’s get muddy!!!

Race day, my foot is feeling great and I am going to try and run. I was not prepared for the ski slope that we had to endure for the first half of the race. There were so many times in the beginning that the little voice came back wanting me to give up. I couldn’t though, I had to finish out what I had started. I would never be able to look my clients in the face and push them along their own challenges if I quit this. My boyfriend, who did the race with me kept saying “just keep your feet moving, it doesn’t matter how long it takes.”

I used his encouraging words to get to that finish line, reaching it two minutes under my goal time. I was tired, I was muddy, and I felt AMAZING!!! This was one of the hardest things I had done. It was not so much the challenge of the run or the obstacles, but more the challenge of coming out of my comfort zone. I had to overcome the fear that I would not be able to finish. I had to focus on my breathing, feel my feel hit the dirt, and forget about how hard it was.

All I can say at this point is that I want more! There is an overwhelming feeling of accomplishing something that you thought you could not. Having Craig there to push me along was what I needed to realize that I could do this. That is what I try to give to my clients everyday.

I know first hand what a struggle it can be overcome a fear, especially a physical one. All I can tell you is that no matter what your goals are with your health, fitness, or life, just “keep those feet moving”.

Tell yourself that YOU CAN, and YOU WILL! Failure only occurs when you throw in the towel. So no matter how long it takes, moving forward towards those goals will always equal a win. OK, who is running the Rugged Maniac with me? :)
