Local Business Spotlight

Hey Guys,

I interviewed Alicia Roncari, the owner of Bin 228 in Hartford, and had the pleasure of dining at her restaruant. Bin 228 is a great place to experience great wine and delicious food. Here's how the interview went...

1. Who is you company and what is it that you do? bin228 is a panini and wine bar that opened in 2003. We offer small plates, including cheese plates, fondue, beef carpaccio, as well as an award winning wine list.

2. What is something unique about your company? We offer wine from the part of Italy I am from and pair your wine with the food you order

3. Are there any specials or promotions that you are running? We offer 50% of wine bottles on Monday nights and happy hour 4-6 Monday-Friday with 2.00 apps and 2.00 drafts and 5.00 select wines and martinis.

4. As a busy professional, what is your best time management/organizational skill? I am not that organized but with a calendar and great staff our place runs smooth!

M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio Blog: Who Wants Some Chocolate Pudding??

Hey Everyone,


Want some chocolate, actually want some chocolate pudding? Of course who doesnt right?


I know,  I know, Craig you can't be serious right? I mean chocolate pudding how dare you tease us like that!


No tease, kind of.


Thanks to a friend of mine, I have an awesome recipe that should take care of that sweet tooth! Check it out below and give it a try. I know at first glance it may seem a little weird but trust me, I tried it and before i knew what it was I thought it was chocolate pudding.


Now you might have to play around with the ingredients to get it how you like and of course, everything in moderation, but this is a great alternative to the chocolate pudding we are all use to!


Avocado Mousse


2 avocados
1/2 cup maple syrup
2-4 T. additional sweetener to taste (optional)
2 T. coconut oil (optional)
1-2 t. vanilla
1t. balsamic vinager
1/2 t. soy sauce
1cup cocoa powder
Blend all in a food processor or blender.
Eat!  or Refrigerate
Add raspberries on top and/or mint, or cream, or be creative!

Do you REALLY know what your buying?

Hey M.E.L.T.er's,

Do you really know what your buying at the grocery store?

Oraganic or "Healthy" food more often than not arent really that healthy for you!

Before buying, look at the label and see what ingredients are actually in that so called health food. Most of the time these type of food are marketed very well to make you believe what you are buying is healthy for you when in reality it may not be the best choice. Just because something might have whole grain or organic on it does not mean the rest of the item isnt covered in sugar or other "not so healthy" ingredients.

So, here at M.E.L.T., we have a simple solution!

We are going to be offering a FREE grocery store tour in South Windsor on 7/10 at 7 pm at Stop & Shop, Glastonbury 7/12 at 7:30pm Stop &Shop and 7/16 Harwington right after BC.

The purpose is going to be how to shop smart. We are going to teach you how companys market themselves to come off as healthy. We are also going to show you how to read labels and show what to look for and what to not look for.

This is going to be very informational and if anyone is having trouble with their diet or just wants to learn the rights and wrongs of eating then please join us!

Need Some Oxygen?

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I was tired after the first half of my day. By 1 o'clock I was exhausted! I didnt want to do anything but lay down for a little before I had to come back and work.

Then...

...I had two eyes looking at me. It was my dog Mama. I looked out side and realized it was too nice to sit down and that it wasntfair to keep her inside.

I grabbed her leash, got her in the car and we went for what I thought was going to be a nice walk at our favorite spot.

A four miles run later, we were on our way home and I felt amazing, refreshed and ready to kill at class! Thats because I had more oxygen flowing through my body.

There are many benefits of getting your heart rate up. Disease prevention, healthier heart, fat lose and the one I always doubted, was energy. I'll be the first to admitt that I drink coffee and have the occassional energy drink but in all honestly I know believe that just by getting up and moving you can feel the same effect as me.

I know not everyone has time to go for a run, but something simple as doig a couple body weight squats, jumping jacks, push up, hopping, anything, just do it! Get up and take a walk around outside. take a couple big breaths in! Whatever its is get the blood flowing!

The point of my story is GET UP AND MOVE! Whoever was at bootcamp last night knows that I was fired up till the very last class! No coffee, no enegery drinks just some oxygen in my blood got the fire going!
