Tip #1: There is no such thing as perfect posture! Its important YOU understand this as improving process is a life long process and something we ALWAYS need to work on.

Tip #2: Practice Posture at least once an hour by pulling your shoulders back and puffing your chest up like a super hero.

Tip #3: Set reminders around you to improve posture: sticky notes on your desk, computer or car or sit on a stability ball at work so you are forced to maintain posture.

Tip #4: Spend 60 seconds a day (morning, mid day , night – doesn’t matter) reach your arms straight back, pull your shoulders back, puff your chest up and squeeze your back blades together for 60 seconds. This quick exercise will connect your brain neurologically to your posterior core muscles.

A Traveling Writer's m.e.l.t. Experience

For Immediate Release
Lose Weight the Fun Way with MELT Workout By Ecriture

As a writer with a love of fitness, I enjoy trying new fitness places to train at and sharing my experience.

Everyone grasps or appreciates the importance of keeping our weight at the healthy levels. Gaining fat is not a good thing to happen to us because they would be opening ourselves up to a whole dimension of problems. Being overweight, to be specific, will make us susceptible to diseases. Bad fat cells are toxins, and these toxins kill the cells in our body including our white blood cells that fight disease-causing foreign bodies that enter our system. Being overweight with fat also reduces our endurance because the presence of toxins in the bloodstream lessens the amount of oxygen we intake when we breathe.

While everyone does understands how crucial it is for us to avoid gaining a lot of fat, not all of us recognize the need to perform resistance training with cardio mixed (not just cardio) in order to lose healthy weight and drop bodyfat. This is because they fear the strenuousness of exercise! This is all thanks to mistakes in marketing that let people think that the only way to exercise is to push themselves to the limits, and that is a mindset that is difficult to cultivate especially by those that do not have the love for exercising. As a result, people shun away from exercising and thus gain weight as a result.

I really appreciated MELT’s approach. Whether its their small or larger group personal training sessions or bootcamps, they had people of ALL fitness levels. They teach their personal training and bootcamp clients to train with intensity which they define as working outside their comfort zone…something even the most overweight or out of shape person can do.

In some cases, people are willing to exercise but they cannot find the time to do so. Most people these days are too busy, especially professionals who are focused on finding success and financial independence. They can also free around a half hour to an hour per day to exercise, but most exercise regimes that are being promoted as “effective weight loss solutions” demand more than that. These people think that they have to spend hours and hours at the gym and, because they do not have the time, they end up deciding not to exercise at all!

The coaches at MELT guarantee better results in half the time. They specialize in 30 minute fat burning and toning up personal training or bootcamp workouts.  At MELT, time is no longer an issue.

MELT recognizes that most misconceptions about exercising are the root cause of the obesity issue in America. They also recognize that most people may not have the time to exercise even though they have the desire to. That is why the workouts being implemented by the staff at M.E.L.T are all designed to be fun and exciting while still delivering the results that the individual has come to enlist himself for. They aim to differentiate themselves from box gyms, or the kind of gyms that most of us recognize for their focus on intense strength training and the use of exercise machines.

Instead of machines, however, M.E.LT. Fitness Studios put more focus on core training and interval training with minimal use of machines. The studio prides itself as being home to a “positive and supportive fitness community.” Because they are not box gyms, M.E.L.T’s trainers are able to devise exercise regimes that are as short as 30 minutes that are still quite effective! Tired Of Broccoli, Try This!

Good Morning MELTer's,

So recently I just got into eating brussel sprouts and other than  just knowing they are a green vegetable and low in calories I found out some other interesting and beneficial facts as well!

Brussel Sprouts are high in protein, a quarter of their calories. Loaded with vitamin A, folacin (which helps in weight management), potassium and calcium make a great way to get some of your daily minerals.

They have 3-5 grams of fiber per cup, and at 25 calories per 1/2 cup cooked, you will save on calories and feel more full because of the fiber!

Not only are brussel sprouts good for your the taste great too!

I saute them in coconut oil, garlic and a little black pepper which you can adjust to taste.

So if you are looking for a new veggie to eat with dinner, as a snack or to try I recommend brussel sprouts.

Let me know what you think on our Facebook page and if you have any good brussel sprout recipes share them with us as well!-cs

M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio Hosts Third Annual

Our next mission here at M.E.L.T. is to help spread Holiday Joy to Kids this season. We are teaming up with Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and collecting unwrapped, new toys up until Tuesday December 21, 2010. We will transport all the toys to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and they will distribute the toys to kids whose parents cannot afford to buy them anything this holiday season.

For the third year in a row M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio is hosting a toy drive for kids this holiday season. Owner of M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio Joe Carabase believes that giving back to the community is important. “Every child deserves a gift this holiday season. If we can give some joy to a child this year it would bring a smile to our faces”. M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio has already collected over 40 toys from their three locations in South Windsor, Glastonbury, and Harwinton. South Windsor personal trainer and manager Aaron Granahan is overjoyed by the amount of participation in this event. “Our clients really took to this event. They are awesome people who love to give back”.

If you wish to help M.E.L.T. spread some holiday cheer this year please drop an unwrapped toy to one of their three locations; South Windsor, Glastonbury, and Harwinton. Toys will be accepted until 12/21/12. Thank you in advanced for helping M.E.L.T.'s Mission Bring Joy to Kids!

Have a good morning boost!

Good morning MELTer's,

So I get some questions about if a shake is good to have in the morning for breakfast and my answer to this is yes!

Your body is in a type of starvation state because you have been sleeping for 8 hours, hopefully, and you want your metabolism to start working right away.

Now here's the best part and it's something Ive been doing to give me a little burst.

Instead of using water for my shake in the morning, I use coffee. Right, sounds good!

You can play around with this recipe to your taste but I suggest you use:

  • Ice
  • Coffee
  • 1-2 scoops of protien
  • I drink my coffee black but if you need it lighter, almond milk or if you have have to milk
And there you go! You now have breakfast and your coffee all in one shot!

Play around with your options and let me know what you think on our Facebook page!

Have a great day!-cs

Should You Workout When Sick? Advice from South Windsor & Glastonbury Personal Trainer

My rule of thumb is that YES you MOVE when sick unless you are suffering from food poisoning (that could get ugly), bronchitis, a fever or a sinus infection.
Those things take a lot out of your body and exercises could actually be detrimental. Other than that, get it in baby!

When you start moving and sweating, you:
- Flush out toxins
-Get your body metabolizing, digesting and eliminating
-Boost your positive hormonal flow
All things that WILL make you feel better.

What do when:
a. Sick from food poisoning (that could get ugly), bronchitis, a fever or a sinus infection:
-Rest your body
-Take in LOADS (massive loads, yup just got British on ya) of fluids i.e. WATER
-Drink white or green tea (white has higher antioxidants)
-Eat spicy food; hot peppers and pepper seeds
-Eat mostly  greens & fruits: When you are sick, typically you don't have the stomach to eat normally. In this case, blend together greens, fruits with a few shots of protein.

b. Sick from anything else: G.O.Y.A - get off yo ass!

Sometimes good is just good enough

If you would like to get out a free session at m.e.l.t. Workout for our bootcamp (aka a group personal training experience) OR personal training at one of our locations in Glastonbury or South Windsor, contact info@meltifntessstudio.com asap!

Givin' you something to think about

Hey MELTer's,

I wanted to talk about the speed of your work outs today.

What I mean by this is, are you benefiting from going as fast as you can?

In a sense yes you are, as long as you are performing the exercise correctly!

I say it all the time, I would rather you do 2 great reps, than 100 incorrect ones.

The reason I say this is because it doesnt matter how heavy the weight you use or the speed of the rep but how you fucntionally do that rep.

Sometime slower is better!

You can always pick up the speed once you get your form down first!

Form is the most important aspect because without it, certain stabilizers are not active, you could be compensating for weaker muscles and worst of all without good form thats when injury happens.

So next time you go to grab the heavier weight or do the level 3 exercise, think about this and apply it!

The safer you lift, the longer you will be able to lift and the healthier you will be!

Have a great day!-cs

The Monday m.e.l.t.: Its Okay to Be Imperfect

A few months ago I wrote you about The Fear of Effort or failing to take action towards something because we are afraid that if we do, and do not succeed, that we will fail. The reality is there is NO such thing as failure if YOU take action towards whatever it is you want to achieve.

In working with a lot of type A personalities (including myself), I find that we often have a hard time doing things we aren't great at and can sometimes avoid doing those things because we are not perfect at them.

The reality is there is NO such thing as perfect, in anything. If you want to do something, don't worry about getting 100% ready and prepared to do that thing, take imperfect action towards that thing...JUMP in the water, don't just dip your toe.
The problem with dipping your toe in the water is that you are waiting for the perfect temperature, the right time. You will not have all the answers and things to best prepare you to do anything, until you DO.

This is not to say you should try to barbell clean n press 135 lbs as many total reps as you can, when you never did a clean n press before or something extreme like that. If you wanted to clean n press, you would take imperfect action by seeking out a coach to help you learn the movement correctly then try the movement with little or no weight.
There is no perfect time.

Take imperfect action TODAY and get better as you go.
