When You Aren't Seeing Results...CHANGE IT UP!!

After doing bootcamps with M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio a few times a week for months, Corey got frustrated that she wasn't seeing her body change. Corey was getting stronger, however she wasn't feeling a difference in her clothing.  Since she does not weigh herself,  the clothes were telling her that she needed to do something different.

She came to me for extra help and I knew what needed to be done.  Corey needed to change up her game, in other words her habits. We started with looking at her nutrition and the times that she was working out.  She joined F.L.A.G., our Fat Loss Accountability Group, added Semi Private Training twice a week, and bootcamps five times a week. Corey starting eliminating refined sugars from her diet and simple carbohydrates after 3pm.  She also eats her big meal at lunch and trains later in the evening, finishing her day with a protein shake. With all of this extra coaching and nutrition change, Corey has lost 15 lbs. in the last five weeks!! (She must weigh in with me once a month in F.L.A.G., however she doesn't look at the number on the scale.)

"I rather focus on how I feel then a number", states Corey.

Foam Rolling...It Works!

Hey Everyone,

A lot of us sit for long periods throughout the day, have low back pain, or have tight or weak muscles from being too sedentary.

If any of this sounds like you then maybe its time you tried foam rolling or self myofascial release!

Here at M.E.L.T. we use this technique to help with part of our warm up as well as a great tool in injury prevention with our clients and athletes.

What foam rolling is, is a great way to roll or massage tight muscles without the expensive bill from the masseuse.
Now this isn't the end all, be all to solve your problems but, its a great way to start releasing some tension in your sore or tight muscles!

Around our muscles is a connective layer of tissue that wraps around your muscle. As time goes on and life happens, some muscles may become tight, you may not stretch enough or after a hard work out sore. All of these reason why your muscles are sore or stuck together are called adhesion. That connective tissue becomes "bumpy" and the foam roller acts as a steam roller, if you will, and "flattens" those muscles and smooths then out.

Other benefits of foam rolling have been improvement in blood circulation which, then improves the delivery of nutrients and removal of waste, lengthening of short muscles, ligament and tendons, in even flexibility.

 Again, this does not happen over night and does take some time but doing a little bit of something to improve your health is better than doing nothing at all!

Local Fitness Center Bridges the Gap Between the Cross Fit Games, Adventure Runs and The Biggest Loser

M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio is changing the fitness industry by fusing together Biggest Loser Challenges, Cross fit Games and the concept of Adventure Runs with their own take.

“We created the M.E.L.T. Madness Tournament, because we are not impressed with the options for the everyday person to partake in challenging and competitive activities without having to train for months or be “die hard.” Its great that the awareness of fitness is growing, we just wanted to offer an option for people of all levels and provide professional coaching and motivation during the entire event, “ says Director Craig Stranachak.
M.E.L.T. Madness Tournament will take place Saturday from 9-1 pm at 40 Sandra Drive, suite 7-8 in South Windsor, Connecticut. The opening game will include “Bootcamp Gone Bad,” M.E.L.T.’s killer challenge where each team will compete in reps for five different exercise, each for an entire minute – all back to back without rest! Other games will include Tire Flips, TRX Row-Atomic Push—up, Sled Pulls, Sand Bag Runs and creating Equipment Bridges. Teams will get points for each event and the top two teams will compete for first and second place in the Warrior Course, an obstacle course that will test endurance and will.

  Unlike the Cross Fit Games and Adventure Runs, M.E.L.T. will have seven professional fitness coaches supervising, motivating and coaching each participant. “We are about Safety First, Results Second. The last thing someone needs is to nurse an injury when they are trying to get healthy!,” Says South Windsor M.E.L.T. manager Aaron Granahan.
There will be 24 teams participating in tomorrow’s event and there is expected to be hundreds of spectators cheering on the participants. M.E.L.T. hired Dj TekNeek to provide fun and motivating music. “To my knowledge, there has never been a local event like this. We are very excited,” says Glastonbury M.E.L.T. manager Nicole DiMauro.

  Although this is a competition, the M.E.L.T. Staff is excited to help locals feel accomplished, doing something they never did before. “It’s not a matter of can’t, everyone can do this. It’s all about just doing and embracing discomfort,” says owner Joe Carabase.

Local Business Spotlight

Hey Guys, Craig here with M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio! I just interviewed Sean Gaura, manager of Cycling Concepts in Glastonbury, and what a great company he represents. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile was asked if I needed any help without the typical salesmen pressure.

Here's how it went:

1. Who is your company and what is it that you do/

Sean: The company is Cycling Concepts and we specialize everything from kids bikes all the way to customers with customization and special request.

2. What is something unique about Cycling Concepts?

Sean: Our philosophy and the motto we live by is to create "Moments of Magic". What I mean by that is we are not just selling bikes but the sport. We want our customers to be happy and have a good experience.

We also can customize bikes to the customers order.

3. Do you have and specials or events going on?

Sean: In April we will have our spring sale and on May 6th we are going to have our MayDay ride which starts at Cycling Concept in Glastonbury location in downtown at the intersection of Main and Hebron. Destined to be a classic ride, the route encompasses beautiful rolling hills, adrenaline pumping windy roads and stunning views. You can Choose between a 25 or 60 mile loop that starts and ends at our new shop. With our tasty treats at the finish you'll have plenty of motivation to push over the hills!

4. As a busy professional, what is your best organizational skill/tip

Sean: For me it's too not multitask. I start and finish one project, one and done!

Pizza From Your Trainer....What?!

 Here at M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio, we are always teaching our clients on how your nutrition plays a big part in your weight loss/management goals.  There are a ton of different diet ideas out there from Atkins to Paleo.  So which one is right? How would the average person know what is best for them with all of the crazy diets that are out there?


For starters, we are not Licensed Nutritionists, so the information we give our clients is a based on our own education and research.  However, we have great licensed professionals that we out source to. Here at M.E.L.T. we also like to stay away from the word "diet". We are helping our clients change their lives, so to say "diet" would mean that what they were doing was short term. This is not the case,  so instead your fitness and nutrition with us is a "lifestyle".


With groups like F.L.A.G., our Fat Loss Accountability Group, nutrition is a topic that comes up a lot. Our meetings are designed so that group members have a chance to take turns and talk about how their progress is going and any challenges they might have faced.  In our last meeting we covered protein and what is the best for gaining lean muscle and how much a person should have in their diet based on their individual needs.


We encourage our clients to let themselves cheat, one small meal a week. Doing this helps fire up your metabolism and also mentally keep you on course.  Unless you are so regimented that you never get cravings and can stay on track with your nutrition, a cheat meal is a good way to keep moving towards your weight loss goals.


Rewarding is another great way to stay on track. We have a workout tracking board here at M.E.L.T. where clients put how many bootcamps/semi privates they want to get in for month. At the end of the month, we tally up the total to see if they met their goals. If they are really not attending as many as they had wanted or as many as we think they should, we coach our clients on finding ways to make time for their fitness.


So where does the pizza come in?  If a client meets their goals consistently, the trainers will take them out for a pizza dinner! We are able to gain better relationships with our clients by getting to chill with them outside of M.E.L.T.  Not to mention they get to enjoy a delicious cheat meal on us!

Craig's Post Workout Shake

Hey guys,

There are many different ways to make a shake and I have recently been ask what my recipe is for my protein shake.

Well here it is!

First I add about 4 to 5 ice cubes with a scoop and a half of protein in a blender.

I then add a 1/4 cup of oats (I'm a texture guy and this thickens the shake up) followed by a healthy scoop of natural chunky peanut butter (Teddy's) and then almond milk just to the top of the ice.

Now for the finisher, which isn't for everybody, real deal hot sauce! Not frank's red hot, but the kind of stuff you can see the seeds in (only a couple of dashes or more depending on how hot you want it). The reason for this is it adds flavor but also spicy food really kick up your metabolism.

It does this by the element that gives chili's their heat, capsaicin.

Now, everybody is different and my recipe might not be for you but, that's the fun in creating your own personal shakes! On that note, be smart about what you put in your shake! Remember its a protein shake, not a milk shake!

It Pays To Work Hard At M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio

Week six of the Eight Week Transformation Contest and our bootcamp clients are killing it!! Not only are waist lines changes and the numbers on the scales, but mindsets and lifestyles. This challenge is creating healthier habits which will in the long run, create better quality in their lives.

Results Coach Nicole, at the Glastonbury M.E.L.T. Fitness location, talked with three of her clients to see how they are doing so far.

Nicole- "Tara, how are you feeling at the end of week six in the Transformation Contest?"

Tara-"This week has been a challenge for me with the time change and the really nice weather. It was hard to motivate myself to come. However, once I got here for Semi-private training and

then bootcamp, I felt awesome and energized. I am always glad when I come and that I feel great when I leave."

Nicole- "What has been your success with the challenge in the six weeks?"

Tara- "I have definitely lost inches, and I have been a lot better about my eating since starting the challenge."

Nicole-"Audrey, how are you doing in week six?"
Audrey-" I am good, a little sore but feeling really good! I have so much energy and my stamina has increased rapidly. The Semi-private training is really helping me get to the next level in my fitness and I am doing bootcamp six days a week."

Nicole-"Sarah, I got a chance to talk to you earlier this week and you shared some great new with me about taking in four belt loops since starting! What have your challenges been?"

Sarah-" Food has been a challenge for me this week, and staying on track with eating healthy. I have allowed myself to cheat here and then, but I keep trying to focus on the Transformation Contest, which is helping me not fall off the wagon too much."

All of the Personal Trainers here at M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio have seen some great changes take place during this challenge. With two more weeks to go, we can not wait to see how everyone's weight loss success has been. The best thing about this challenge is that it is getting the clients to change their habits and form a new mindset towards their health. M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio, South Windsor’s Transformation Contest “Tight race to the finish”

Week six of the Eight Week Transformation Contest and our bootcamp clients are killing it!! Not only are waist lines changes and the numbers on the scales, but mindsets and lifestyles. This challenge is creating healthier habits which will in the long run, create better quality in their lives.

M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio is in week 6 of their 8 week transformation contest, and it is really getting competitive. Two weeks removed from their weigh-ins and two weeks away from the finale most of their members are making a big push for that 1,000 dollars cash. “I want to do this for myself, but I definitely want to win.” said Nicola Oliver-Smith. Nicola is a member at M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio in South Windsor, CT. “She is really rocking it. It seems like she is in every bootcamp. It has really paid off for her and I’m excited to see how she finishes” Said M.E.L.T. results coach Aaron Granahan.
Another one of M.E.L.T. South Windsor location clients is Roberta Carlon. “I’ve known Bert for a long time now, and I have never seen her work this hard” said Granahan. Granahan elaborated “She doesn’t have much to lose but she is determined to get it done.” M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio has a wide variety of fitness levels at each facility including South Windsor. M.E.L.T. is unique in the way they can tailor any of their workouts to accommodate all fitness levels. “We have a lot of different fitness levels here at. Local Business Spotlight - Tiffany Chion

Hey Everyone,

Craig here for M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio spotlighting successful business owner and entrepreneur Tiffany Chion. She is the owner of Yoga Universe and True Wellness Coaching. I had the opportunity to interview her and find out what her companies are all about!

1. What is the name of your company or companies and what is it that you do?

Tiffany:

My first company I want to talk about is Yoga Universe and the information for my company can be found at www.yogauniverse.com. What we do is offer online yoga videos to members world wide.

The second company we provide coaching, whether it be for your career, personal, health and fitness, weight loss and relationship.

2. What is something unique about your companies?

Tiffany:

Yoga Universe can be done anywhere because as a member you can access the videos on computer, Ipad, tv and even on your phone! The best part is you can also access our videos from anywhere in the world!

True Wellness Coaching is unique in the fact that I get to see my clients grow and achieve their goals! We are able to breakdown our clients goals to get them to where they want to be!

My best time management skill would defiantly be time organization by grouping like items together in different parts of the day. For example, bring your bills to school with you, that way when you are on a break from class instead of gossiping over nothing or wasting time doing random things, you can knock that out of the way so when you get home that's one less thing you have to worry about. Another thing is when, when you get home move to a different group of things put the books and bills away because that group is over for that time period.

Week 5 of M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio's Transformation Contest is "Heating Up"

M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio's 8 week Transformation Contest is 5 weeks in and the competition is fierce. “I’ve lost a total of 8 inches of my entire body, and a total of 10 pounds in 5 weeks. It’s amazing”, states South Windsor client and contestant, Nicola Oliver-Smith.

Nicola tributes her more focused diet and tough workouts to her success. With three or more bootcamp workouts a week and healthy eating, the Transformation Contest is keeping her on track and motivated.

Nicola says, “It’s easy to stay motivated here at MELT. The trainers care about your success and keep you inspired to do your best everyday”

The constant focus on what you do before and after your workout has really helped Roberta Carlon, who is another Transformation Contestant.

“The constant accountability is why I’m seeing the results I am, and it feels great.” Said Roberta.
Since she has started the contest, she has lost a total of 6 inches of her waist and thighs. And there is plenty more to come. “It feels good to see everyone who has worked so hard, succeed”, says Results Coach, Aaron Granahan. “Our passion is to guide them to a healthier lifestyle, and it very fulfilling to see them achieve what they want.”

Local Weekly Spotlight


Hey guys, Craig here for M.E.L.T. Fitness Studio in Glastonbury!

I had the opportunity to talk to the owner of Keser's Flowers of Glastonbury, Meagan Salinsky. Keser's Flowers has a lot of the same core values that we have here at M.E.L.T. and that would be superior customer service!

2. What is one thing that is unique about your company?

3. Do you have anything exciting going on? Any specials, promotions, etc?

Spring is around the corner so have have tulips for $9.99 a bunch and for St. Patricks day we have Green carnations.

4. As a busy professional, what is your best organizational and/or time management tip?

Getting up early and starting the day and also, keeping a notebook and writing down the things i need to get done for the day.

TOMA - Key to Success!

Before we discuss TOMA, I just wanted to thank all of you who participated in our Share the Love, Bring a Friend Week, we raised $575 for the Heart Foundation!


TOMA aka Top of Mind Awareness is vital for success in anything. Have you ever heard of the book and movie The Secret? If you haven’t, simply put it’s about getting what you want in life by thinking positively, visualization and the law of attraction. These concepts and TOMA program your subconscious mind around things you think about, whether good or bad, and actually dictate actions you take.


4 Ways to Utilize TOMA to Shed Body fat


1. Mark your calendar with days and times you are going to work out, every day, every week. This way, every time you look at your calendar, you see your workouts. Plus, it’s been proven that if you schedule something, you are 95% more likely to attend it. Our mindbody software makes this easy for our bootcamp and personal training clients.


2. Join a challenging fitness program: When you are physically challenged, you are going to think more about whatever it was that challenged you, either before or after the training session. You will feel accomplished and energized; your subconscious will crave more of that feeling, thus pushing you to work out more. While we focus on form first, our goal of every workout at M.E.L.T. is to make it an challenging experience, whether bootcamp or personal training at our South Windsor, Harwinton, Glastonbury and On-site locations.


3. Log your eating: I cannot tell you how many people I’ve consulted with that have told me how healthy they eat and how they have no idea why they can’t lose the extra belly fat around their stomach. Upon persisting them to keep an active food log, I always notice several things that they are consuming and not doing that are leading to belly fat gain. We are human and I don’t care how good your memory is, if you don’t track something its out of sight. Plain and simple, those who log what they eat on a daily base get better results. I know logging can be tedious so I created a log book that only requires you to check things off, rather than writing them in. I built our meal plan into the check list so that our clients do not have to remember every aspect of the plan, the choices are right there for them to check!


4. Seek out accountability: I can honestly tell you one of the best things I’ve ever done was join a mastermind. In this group, other professionals and I meet quarterly to support and hold each other accountable. Its human nature to fall off track but when people are expecting you to do certain things and are willing to support you to accomplish those things, you will get stuff done.


Accountability happens on all level; top Olympic athletes, professional athletes, successful business people – you name it! Therefore, we created our F.L.A.G. (fat loss accountability group) in our Glastonbury, South Windsor and Harwinton bootcamp and personal training locations because we know people who join this group will get better results. One of our members in our Glastonbury group lost 10 lbs since our first FLAG meeting! We cut each group off at 14 people, if you are interested, email meltfitness@gmail.com as soon as possible! Each member of the FLAG group receives this easy to follow log book, attends one monthly meeting where we do measurements and give each member the platform to share what they are going through.


ACTION is key! The one thing I think The Secret could have done a better job in is explain how important implementing these concepts is. Thinking alone gets you nowhere, but the more TOMA you have – the more action you are likely to take.
