How to Stay Hydrated!


Hey guys, I just wanted to send you a quick note to discuss proper hydration on these insanely hot days.

Hydration is extremely important yet largely underrated. The reality is, even if you are just doing your normal routine if you are dehydrated you can still suffer from heat exhaustion. If you are active, it's that much more important to properly hydrate.
At M.E.L.T., we are taking special precautions to make sure there is enough air circulating and programming our workouts in a different way to still give an awesome workout without putting anyone at risk.

PLEASE follow these tips, they literally can be life saving:
1. Drink .55 x your bodyweight in oz's. Do not give me "that's too much," "I can't do that," "I'll get up every...," - especially in this heat, your body needs enough water. If you have an 18-32 oz water bottle, you can knock out the right amount of oz's easily. All of our clients have an 18 oz water bottle, please use them!

2. If you go for a bike ride/run, text or call a friend that you are going, how far you are going and approximately what time you will be done and make sure they respond! It pains me to say, but people die every year from going on runs, suffering from heat stroke or exhaustion and passing out without no one knowing.

3. After you workout or run, drink 6 oz's of a sports drink (Gator aid or power aid) - all you need is 6 oz's. These drinks would made to drink after excessive sweating, not on casually.

Warning Signs of Dehydration
1. Your urine is yellow or dark. If you are properly hydrated, it should be clear. In this case, drink more water!
2. You get light headed
3. You get dizzy
4. You stop sweating
In #2-3, sit down in a cool area with your chest upright with a cold water and someone there to monitor you. If the symptoms remain or progress, call 911.
#4, call 911.

If you have kids, these rules apply just the same.

Need Some Oxygen?

Hey Guys,

Yesterday I was tired after the first half of my day. By 1 o'clock I was exhausted! I didnt want to do anything but lay down for a little before I had to come back and work.

Then...

...I had two eyes looking at me. It was my dog Mama. I looked out side and realized it was too nice to sit down and that it wasntfair to keep her inside.

I grabbed her leash, got her in the car and we went for what I thought was going to be a nice walk at our favorite spot.

A four miles run later, we were on our way home and I felt amazing, refreshed and ready to kill at class! Thats because I had more oxygen flowing through my body.

There are many benefits of getting your heart rate up. Disease prevention, healthier heart, fat lose and the one I always doubted, was energy. I'll be the first to admitt that I drink coffee and have the occassional energy drink but in all honestly I know believe that just by getting up and moving you can feel the same effect as me.

I know not everyone has time to go for a run, but something simple as doig a couple body weight squats, jumping jacks, push up, hopping, anything, just do it! Get up and take a walk around outside. take a couple big breaths in! Whatever its is get the blood flowing!

The point of my story is GET UP AND MOVE! Whoever was at bootcamp last night knows that I was fired up till the very last class! No coffee, no enegery drinks just some oxygen in my blood got the fire going!

Local Business Spotlight

Hey Everyone,


This week for our Local Business Spotlight, I interviewed Linda Kenneman, co-owner of Daybreak Coffee Roasters.


Linda was a pleasure to interview, here is how it went!


1. Who is you company and what is it that you do?


The company's name is Daybreak Coffee Roasters and we sell gourmet coffee and tea as well have breakfast sandwiches, panini's and Champlain Chocolate!


2.  What is something unique about your company?


We roast all our coffee in house and carry a variety of teas. We also have gourmet gift baskets as well!


3. Do you have and specials/promotions going on at this time?


Coffee of the week is Nicaragua! We also have a "Loyalty to Our Customer" reward where any coffee at home, tea or truffles bought, 10% goes into an account and once that account reaches $15 you get store credit!


4. As a busy professional, what is your best time management/organizational skill or tool?


I use a daily schedule as well as a check off list of things to get done by the end of the day!

Summer Challenge

Hey Guys,

Summer should be starting very soon, just waiting for mother nature to get her stuff together!

Well here at M.E.L.T. we are challenging one and all to drop 2 sizes by the end of summer!

How it works is you need to bring something you use to fit into or go out and make an investment in something you would like to fit into, place it in the M.E.L.T. treasure chest and except the challenge. This is a challenge to anyone who has been hasn't been meeting their monthly exercises and to the people who have.

All you will need to do is take a before and after picture, that's it! There is no fee, just your hard work and determination!

So what do ya say? Who is going to step up and take the M.E.L.T., drop 2 size, summer challenge?

Let's start as soon as possible guys. Don't wait till next week, let's get it done today!

Local Business Spotlight

Who Is Your Company and what is it that you do?
1. Our business name is Candace Jeffery Photography.  We are a husband and wife photography team, specializing in wedding and portrait photography.  I have been photographing weddings professionally for over 10 years, and Josh has been for over 6 years.

What is something unique about your company?
2. We pride ourselves in finding the perfect balance between modern and traditional wedding photography.  We always want every image of ours to be overflowing with emotion; wether it is quite, romantic emotion, or load, exciting emotion.  We limit the number of jobs that we take on each year so that we can have personal relationships with all of our clients.  It is out goal to develop lifelong relationships and be our client's "photographers for life".  We have had the exciting privilege of photographing weddings throughout all of New England, New York, New Jersey, the West Coast, Florida, and even in Mexico.  We are almost 100% referral based, and that is honestly the best compliment that we can receive.

Do you have any events, promotions or specials going on this month?

As a busy professional what is your best time management/organizational skill?
4. As a busy professional, running a studio as well as a family (we have three children), my biggest word of advice is to: work to your strengths and outsource your weaknesses.  We handle almost all aspects of our business "in house", but there are a few things that we outsource, and they are life savers.  On a personal level, I make it my goal to have specific working hours, and "mom" hours.  Disconnecting from work used to be very difficult for me, but I know how important it is to do, and I make a point of sticking to it.

Strength In Numbers

Some of the Coaches and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend the Perform Better-Functional Training Summit this past weekend in Rhode Island.  This was three days packed full of amazing lectures and hands-on workshops with some of the greatest Fitness Professionals in the industry.

I was able to learn from people like Rachel and Alwyn Cosgrove, Eric Beard, Todd Durkin, amoug the few.  Trainers from all over the country travel to experience and gain some of the knowledge from these brillant Coaches.

One of the things that I enjoy most about these seminars, is being in a room full of people with the same interest and passion as my own.  We are all different. Some train only youth, some just woman. Some participants may only work with older adults, and others competitive weight lifters. The common theme though is that we are all there for one reason, to better ourselves in our profession for our clients.

For me, there is an empowerment to be around people that all have the same interest as myself. For me, it is knowing that there is huge support system out there of Fitness Professionals. It gets me more excited about what I do.

This is a lot like the group training we have at M.E.L.T.  Even though our classes are filled with people that have different fitness abilities and goals, there is one common theme. Everyone who is part of our community is at M.E.L.T. to better their health.  Knowing that you are not alone in your journey will only help you travel that much further towards your goals. It also helps you stay on track not only because you now have people to hold you accountable, but to help you if you get off course.

All of the coaches at M.E.L.T. are here to ensure your success, however, it seems to help even more when you know you have people around you that are also striving for better health by attending our bootcamps, just like you.

Know that you are not alone. Everyone in our community is in the same boat as you. Perhaps your travels are for different purposes, however, everyone is striving towards health and fitness goals.I like to call this strength in numbers.
